Simply asking MITA members to pledge to use the islands carefully and responsibly is not enough. We also try to equip members with the knowledge and tools they need to carry out that responsibility. The Maine Island Trail Association Guidebook, which is full of helpful tips and suggestions for minimizing human impact on island environments, is a good place to start but it is by no means exhaustive. On the following pages we provide additional guidelines and informative articles to help island users hone their low-impact recreational skills, improve their safe boating practices, and better their understanding of island environments. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the seven principles of Leave No Trace before setting out on the Trail.
