Leave What You Find
People come to wild islands to enjoy them in their natural state. Allow others a sense of discovery by leaving rocks, plants and other objects of interest as you find them.
Preserve Natural Features
Leave campsites in as good or even better condition than you found them. Minimize site alterations and avoid damage to trees and plants. Picking flowers, leaves, berries or plants may seem harmless but the cumulative effect of many visitors doing so becomes quite damaging. Make sure you do not introduce or transport non-native species to the islands. Empty and clean your tents, boats, shoes and gear after every trip.
Leave Cultural Features Undisturbed
The islands contain many interesting cultural and historical treasures including ancient stone walls, cellar holes and shell middens. Admire these artifacts from a respectful distance so as to allow future visitors the same sense of discovery. Do not build structures, furniture or dig trenches. Dismantle inappropriate user-built “improvements” such as fire rings and benches, but leave properly located and authorized fire rings intact. Resist the urge to take souvenirs from the islands.
