Over the weekend of the Maine Boatbuilders Show in Portland, the Maine Island Trail Association welcomed its founder, Dave Getchell, Sr., to kick off the 20th year of the Maine Island Trail. MITA’s member party drew some sixty people to hear Dave relate the thrills and challenges of establishing America’s first water trail. The three-day MITA open house drew hundreds of members of the boating public through a range of Maine Island Trail displays and electronic media. As a result, over 60 new and past members signed up for 2008 – more than at any single event to date. We thank Dave Getchell and the 13 other members and Trustees who volunteered to make the weekend such a great success.
