The Maine Island Trail Association is the principal volunteer stewardship organization working to protect the uninhabited islands of Maine. MITA leverages counteless volunteers to keep expenses low while producing an extraordinary impact on the coast.
Membership dues cover only a fraction of the cost necessary to supply our volunteers with training, coordination, boats, and fuel to enable them to monitor island use, assess ecological conditions, educate island users about low-impact practices, and conduct semi-annual island cleanups. For the rest, we depend on the generosity of people like you.
