Outreach

Outreach volunteers are MITA’s ambassadors of responsible recreational and island stewardship OFF the Maine Island Trail. Representing MITA at trade shows, boating events, educational fairs, in schools and elsewhere, outreach volunteers help educate the public about the mission of the Maine Island Trail Association, the benefits of MITA membership, and the importance of Leave No Trace practices and ongoing stewardship of Maine’s islands.

Events range in size and scope from hour-long in-store programs with small audiences to multi-day shows with crowds numbering in the thousands. Outreach volunteers undergo a brief but comprehensive training prior to representing MITA, so no prior experience is necessary. A warm, friendly persona and the ability to communicate effectively with different types of people is all you need to help spread the word about MITA and promote responsible recreation and volunteer island stewardship on the Maine coast. Oh, and the gift of gab helps too!

If you’re interested in learning more about volunteering for MITA at events throughout Maine, across New England or at an relevant event near you, please contact us at events@mita.org.
