Support the Maine Island Trail

Giving to MITA
The Maine Island Trail Association is the principal volunteer stewardship organization working to protect the uninhabited islands of Maine.
We keep our expenses very low compared to our impact on the coast in two important ways. First, we leverage the work of hundreds of volunteers to care for over 160 public and private islands along the coast through our stewardship programs. MITA supplies these volunteers with training, coordination, boats, and fuel to enable them to monitor island use, assess ecological conditions, educate island users about low-impact practices, and conduct semi-annual island cleanups. Second, we partner with other organizations -- both public and private -- to cultivate a lasting stewardship ethic that transforms island users into caretakers of Maine’s fragile coastal islands.
Membership dues cover only about 30% of MITA’s total revenue. MITA relies on donations beyond basic membership fees to ensure the islands are cared for today and into the future. We hope you will consider ways in which you can further our mission by donating in the following variety of ways.

Share Your Island
The Trail wouldn't exist without the generosity of landowners who choose to share their islands in return for a pledge of thoughtful use and MITA's stewardship and monitoring work. If you are interested in placing an island on the trail, click here for more information.
